Matched Weighed Cassettes

Match-weighed cassettes eliminate the user's inconvenience of pre-weighing filters for gravimetric analysis. Each cassette contains 2 filters which are matched in weight. After sampling, the user will weigh both filters. The difference in weight of the two filters will determine the sample amount.

We uses the best in filter weighing technology to produce premium quality match-weighed cassettes. Our process includes preloading under strict environmental controls to ensure reproducibility - and provides the user with a quality product at a competitive price.

The weight tolerance of match weighed filters references the maximum difference in weight from the test (top) filter and the control (bottom) filter. A stated tolerance of 50µg means that the control filter may differ in weight no more than 50µg from the test filter. This is important to know during post sample weighing as the weight tolerance of the 2 filters needs to be considered when calculating results.

During manufacture, filters with matched weights (within the given tolerance) are inserted into the cassette in random order. Thus, it is possible for the control filter to weigh more than the test filter before sampling (within the given tolerance). If the control filter still weighs more after sampling, a sample likely was not collected. Please check your equipment for proper operation and pump flow.

Gravimetric analysis samples require filters to be weighed both before and after sampling to determine the amount of contaminate collected. Our pre-weighed cassettes eliminate the inconvenience of pre-weighing filters by providing the filter weight on each cassette prior to sampling.

The manufacturer begins the process of manufacturing pre-weighed cassettes by letting each filter equilibrate to the environmental conditions of 68° F and 50% relative humidity. Filters are then weighed using advanced microbalance equipment which records the weight. After reading the weight, filters are removed, placed into cassettes and sealed with a label bearing the weight and a unique serial number.

Know what you are buying! All our pre-weighed cassettes are weighed to a 5 decimal accuracy (e.g. .00001g). Some competitive brands are only weighed with a 4 decimal accuracy and are unacceptable for some applications.

Using our pre-weighed cassettes does not comply with OSHA directives which require both the “tare weight” and “secondary weight” to be performed on the same microbalance and environmental conditions. If complying with this directive is a concern, match-weighed cassettes are a good alternative way to save time and still comply with the directive.
